For USA details are made available by using AQI Data from Environmental Protection Agency (www.epa.gov, www.enviroflash.info). For India AQI Data source is Central Pollution Control Board (www.cpcb.nic.in) and Open Government Data Platform (www.data.gov.in).
Air Quality Index is a tool for effective communication of air quality status to people in terms, which are easy to understand. It transforms complex air quality data of various pollutants into a single number, nomenclature and color. AQI measure the presence of contaminants in the air, such as carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and sulphur dioxide (SO2).
