By reading your current position and comparing it with an ideal transit, this app will help you navigate a shorter and straighter route than can be achieved by sight only. The screen displays by how many metres you have strayed from the optimum line and also how many metres remain to the finish. Additionally, there is an audio alert every 30 seconds telling you if you are on course, more than 5m right or left, 10m, 15m, 20m or 25m, so that your phone can be put away out of sight (remembering that it needs access to the sky for satellites).

I have tested it on two trips to the Island and back and it seems to be working well as intended. If you practice using it on the paddle over to the island remember that, as you are moving in the opposite direction, the Left and Right commands will be reversed.

The straight line distance from the rock at the tip of the island to between the slipways at RAHRC is 4040m. I hope that, if you decide to use this app on the day, it helps you get nearer to 4040m than the 4800m that I swam last time. BUT - I made this as a bit of fun and as a learning exercise in app creation to help with my teaching work - so please treat it as such, and don't ask for a refund of the money you don't pay for it if it doesn't meet your expectations. ;)
