I <3 Friend Computer
By Albert Cuartero
I <3 Friend Computer is a text based story that revolves around the interactions that a newly created clone has with the sentient computer referred to as Friend Computer. The story acts like a commentary about a utopian society, where happiness and pleasure is defined not by the individuality and curiosity of the human nature but by a person’s ability to listen to exactly what people tell them to do. This acts like the first chapter of a continuing storyline that I wanted to work, so the endings may seem rather morbid at the moment. The Friend Computer is mostly inspired by games like the Portal series and the Stanley Parable, especially in terms of character. He acts like a representation of the idea of a flawed protagonist. He wants to help people and make them happy but due to his lack of understanding and comparison, he believes that the only way for people to be happy is to be like him. Freedom of choice isn’t an idea that he is really familiar with due to his coding, that’s why when people constantly refuse to follow what he wants he believes that they do not want to be happy and would be happier dead. There are two reason why I had created this game, one was because I wanted it to act like a sort of introduction or way to flesh out a character that I had been thinking of making a game about. The other was because I really needed to get started on writing for this game that I want to make in the future.
