Exploration of an Android App Development utilizing the Google Maps API - Brian Kinane
This project's aim is to develop an Android application which utilizes the Google Maps Android API and showcases the API’s various features. Advanced map functionality is created using the multiple functions and features provided by the API. This functionality is showcased in the “GeoExplore” Android app.
Area and distance calculation are primary features of the application. The user has the ability to mark out specific routes and the distance is automatically calculated. Area calculation involves a polygon overlay created by the user using multiple markers. This feature can be used to find the area of a plot in both acres and meters squared.
Location logging and route tracking are also showcased within the app. These features will utilize the GPS component along with the marker functionality. The route is recorded when the tracking feature is initiated by the user, the user’s current location is then logged continuously at a given time interval until the user stops tracking. The route and the distance travelled is then calculated and displayed to the user.
This version of GeoExplore Android App comes with one universal variant which will work on all the Android devices.
