The word "chālīsā" is derived from "chālīs", which means the number forty in Hindi, as the Hanuman Chalisa has 40 verses (excluding the couplets at the beginning and at the end).Hanuman Chalisa is a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
