Initial Release
‘I am Argonaut’ is a sculpture created by Jason Wilsher-Mills, which was commissioned by Folkestone Triennial 2020, as part of the Adam Reynolds Award 2020.
Jason was commissioned to create work about William Harvey, the 17th Century doctor and scientist, who made great discoveries in how the human circulation system worked. This proved to be a great inspiration to Jason, as he is a disabled artist, who uses his own cellular structure to decorate his sculptures.
The sculpture which Jason has created tells the story of the condition, which caused his disability, as well as celebrating the discoveries of the illustrious William Harvey and the wonder of the ‘hidden internal body’.
Working with his creative partners, Hot Knife Digital Media, they have created an augmented reality experience which reflects these themes and brings together the sculpture and the statue of William Harvey.
Also hidden within the app are some ‘Easter eggs’ which provide more information about the creation of the work.
