Imam Malik adalah salah seorang ulama fiqih yang terkenal sebagai pendiri mazhab Maliki dalam bidang fiqih. Mazhab ini cukup berkembang di dunia internasional, terutama di Andalusia. Selain sebagai ulama fiqih, ia pun dikenal sebagai ahli Hadis. Salah satu karyanya yang monumental dalam bidang Hadis adalah al–Muwattha. Kitab ini merupakan kitab Hadis yang sangat klasik, sehingga menarik untuk dikaji.
Keahlian imam Malik dalam meriwayatkan Hadis dapat kita lihat dalam kitabnya ini. Apakah sistem periwayatannya memenuhi kriteria kesahihan Hadis menurut jumhur muhadditsin atau tidak. Kitab ini pun sangat sarat dengan qaul sahabat dan tabi’in, sehingga sebagian orang mengkategorikan kitab ini sebagai kitab fiqih, bukan kitab Hadis. Meskipun demikian, jumhur muhadditsin berpendapat bahwa kitab ini dipandang sebagai kitab Hadis karena metode penyusunannya berdasarkan sistem periwayatan Hadis.
Tetapi, sebagai kitab Hadis, kitab ini perlu diteliti keshahihannya. Karenanya, penulis mencoba mengkaji seberapa jauh keshahihan Hadis dalam kitab al-Muwattha ini. Keshahihan sebuah Hadis dapat kita lihat dari metode periwayatan yang digunakan Imam Malik dalam kitabnya, sanad yang digunakannya, serta ketelitian redaksi matannya. Dalam hal ini, penulis hanya akan mengkaji sistem periwayatan dan sanad yang dipakai oleh imam Malik dalam al-Muwattha-nya.Imam Malik was one of the scholars of jurisprudence known as the founder of the Maliki school of jurisprudence in the field. This school of thought is developing internationally, especially in Andalusia. In addition as a scholar of jurisprudence, he was known as the scholars of hadith. One of his works are monumental in the field of Hadith al-Muwatta. This book is a book of Hadith very classic, so interesting to study.
Imam Malik expertise in the Hadith narrated we can see this in his book. Does the system meet the criteria for the validity of the hadith narrations by jumhur muhadditsin or not. The book is also heavily laden with qaul friend and tabi'in, so most people categorize this book as a book of jurisprudence, not the book of Hadith. Nonetheless, jumhur muhadditsin found this book is seen as a book of Hadith as the preparation method of transmission systems based on the Hadith.
But, as the book of Hadith, this book needs to be investigated keshahihannya. Therefore, the authors try to assess how far keshahihan Hadith in the book al-Muwatta this.
