International Mobile Equipment Identity (International Mobile Equipment Identity), better known as IMEI, is a global identification number and unique for each mobile phone.
To locate the device IMEI just type * # 06 # or check on a label on the battery. The number consists of four groups, which follows the pattern: nnnnnn-nn-nnnnnn-n. In case of theft of your mobile phone, you can discover the device's IMEI using your Google account. Sign into Google account and access account settings. In submenu Account Tools, click Control Panel, and then locate the Android tab. Select your mobile device lost or stolen. The IMEI number will be made available along with the manufacturer's product information.
These identifications of mobile phones connected to a GSM network are stored in a database Equipment Identity Register data (EIR) containing the numbers of all valid mobile equipment in the world. When the operator reported the loss of the device (through the IMEI number), the device will be locked automatically, regardless of which SIM card (this operator) is inserted.
If the device has been stolen, you should report to the police accompanied the equipment bill and the statement should be directed to all operators requesting the lockout.
Some devices may have two or more IMEI, according to the quantity of SIM card.
