Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation, Kerala, is a non-political voluntary organisation conducting several social, educational and cultural programmes, for the last 25 years. There have been major programmes propagating patriotism and the proper use of the National Flag and the National Anthem. It was on the basis of the timely and effective steps taken by the Foundation that the Reserve Bank of India banned the use of garlands made of currency notes, writing on currencies, and the Election Commission of India introduced the candidates' photo on the voting machine.
The Foundation is taking up a new project titled 'MISSION FLAG' intended to enhance a nationwide awareness of the sanctity of the National Flag and the National Anthem. The scheme is proposed to be introduced in schools and colleges with a view to engendering deeper patriotic sentiments among students and the youth.
As part of this ambitious programme, we have prepared a mobile application christened 'Mission Flag' which contains the details of the origin and relevance of the above national symbols, as well as the rules regarding their proper use.
"It will be necessary for us Indians Muslims, Christians, Jews, Parsis, & all others to whom India is their home-to recognize a common flag to live and to die for."
- Mahatma Gandhi
