This application uses SI System:mmol/L to calculate the insulin units for diabetic injections. To accommodate people with different insulin requirements for different meals, this application contains four tabs labeled All Meals, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, making it easy and convenient to calculate insulin units when the Carbohydrate Factor and/or Correction Factor values vary for different meals. If you have the same Carbohydrate and Correction factors for each meal, you can ignore the other tabs and use only the All Meals tab. If your insulin requirements change in the future, you can start using additional tabs by entering the appropriate blood glucose goal and factor values.
The values for the three fields, Glucose Goal, Correction Factor and Carbohydrate Factor should be obtained from your medical practitioner. They are considered constants and will not change very often. To enter or change values for the three fields, press the Edit button immediately below the fields, enter the values received from your medical practitioner and then press the Save button. If you have different Carbohydrate and Correction factors for different meals, enter the factor values in the appropriate tab(s). Each tab can contain different values. The values are stored in the application and will display the last saved value for each tab everytime the application is used.
Insulin units are calculated using the following formula:
X = (Pre-Meal Glucose - Glucose Goal) / Correction Factor
Y = Meal Carbohydrates / Carbohydrate Factor
Insulin Units = X + Y
The Insulin Units are rounded using the following method based upon hospital recommendations:
.00 to .24 --> Round down
.25 to .74 --> Round to .5 (1/2)
.75 to .99 --> Round up
For example, any calculated value between 2.25 and 2.7499 will round to 2.5, and any calculated value between 2.75 and 3.2499 will round to 3.
This application has been extensively tested and great care has been taken to verify the accuracy of the calculations. In addition to the testing, it also has been used to calculate insulin units for a diabetic family member. Even though it has been completely tested, Please verify the accuracy of the calculated insulin units before the first use of this application.
