When I started considering Dance as a career, I searched around my neighbourhood for where to train, and also for options available for me as a dancer. Unfortunately, I found none at the time. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places, or it was God’s plan to ignite my zeal to start my research and current Dance Campaigns.\n
Many years now, I realize the wealth and depth of Dance, and the fact that Dance and dancers in Nigeria have been cheated for so long because of the lack of a visible structure in the profession. \n
This book as the title suggests, is an introduction. It is an introduction to a series, which will present various forms and orders of Dance, Dance teaching and directories of Dance. Considering the large number of genres of Dance in the world, I would attempt to keep concepts universal. As an introductory piece, basic principles of each concept is made available. Dance is a practical profession and as such, included also are some exercises which can be done either individually or with a group/class. I have also included a glossary of Dance terms a list of some dances in the world with their places of origin and tips on organizing a dance production. Some of the exercises will need supporting literature and knowledge of some African folktales and European Classics.
The aim is to provide instructors and dancers with basic performance skills, knowledge and attitudes which can be transferred from the stage to everyday activity in order to improve thinking ability, self expression and esteem, cooperation and team-work, mental and physical creativity and communication through movement.\n
So, if you are an aspiring dancer or a dance teacher, keep this book handy and I hope it helps you as much as writing it helped me.
