The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations (UN) specialized agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), has made freely available the “Ebola-Info-Sharing” smartphone application.
WHAT IS IT
This App has been developed based on inputs from organizations involved in the Fight Against the Ebola Crisis who are working directly on the ground, in the Ebola-affected countries. The App focuses on sharing precise information on Ebola with the public and organizations.
Official news and key points on the map are available to the public.
Organizations have specific features for sharing useful information with staff on the ground, including contacts and ongoing discussions.
QUALITIES
The App has been specifically designed and developed to have the best chance of functioning and being useful in areas of poor Internet connectivity facing problems of intermittent connections and low bandwidth, such as can be the case in some of the Ebola-affected countries.
Principal qualities
• Fully multilingual interface, English/French
• Ultra low bandwidth requirements
• Full offline mode, including offline low-detail map
• Search for each major feature of the App, including offline filtering
