About Kawerau Symposium 2015 Android App
Art lovers will get the chance to buy some of the top Maori carvers' pieces of art.
The carvers start work on sculptural pieces on 20th September 2015 and the finished product will be available for purchase by the end of the week.
The Kawerau Woodfest is hosting the live carving symposium. Eight Maori carvers and invited guests from around the country will be spending a week carving says organiser and master carver Natanahira Pona.
"It will kick off with a blessing. Eight carvers in all will be taking part in the symposium and carving in either wood or stone.
Mr Pona said the symposium is about getting together and although they all would be carving it was more about whanaungatanga (getting together and sharing ideas).
"There'll be a lot of talking, throwing ideas around and sharing a good time - over a drink or two."
The public can watch the carvers work from the 20th- 27th of September 2015
