1. Definisinya, secara bahasa adalah Pengetahuan bahwa sesuatu itu satu. Secara syara’ adalah Pengetahuan untuk bisa menguasai penetapan aqidah-aqidah agama, yang didapat dari dalil-dalilnya yang bersifat keyakinan.
2. Pelopor pembuat ilmu tauhid : Abu Hasan Al-Asy’ariy (Bashroh, 874-935 M) dan Abu Mansur Al-Maturidiy (Samarkand, wafat 944 M).
Hukum mempelajarinya : wajib ‘ain bagi setiap orang mukallaf, lelaki maupun perempuan.
Masalah-masalahnya : Aturan-aturan atau hukum yang membahas hal-hal yang yang wajib, mustahil dan jaiz.
