Population Services International (PSI) has developed the Malaria Case Surveillance (MCS) app as a simple solution to track and report positive cases of malaria in near real time using District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2). Health care providers can download this app on any smartphone with an Android 4.1 OS or greater.
Important note: This app has been configured to sync with PSI’s District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2) instance. PSI’s DHIS2 instance has a specific configuration that allows users to download this application and upload data. Documentation for enabling other organizations to configure a DHIS2 instance and use this app is not yet available.
This app is designed specifically for healthcare providers in mind. If a patient tests positive for malaria, providers use the app to collect basic information, such as the patient’s sex, age, provenience, type of malaria detected, type of treatment administered and location. This is presented in a user-friendly, visual and interactive way that requires little to no technological knowledge. The information is captured in the mobile application and is sent to PSI’s DHIS2 instance in near real-time once an internet connection is established. Thanks to the information that providers collect and report into DHIS2, PSI and partners can track malaria cases, identify outbreaks and re-direct resources to where they are most needed to support malaria surveillance interventions and ultimately reach elimination.
We welcome any comments to improve this app.
