La Mega se inició sencillamente, con un micrófono y la visión de un hombre que amaba su profesión de radiodifusor. Este hombre tenía el sueño de hacer grandes cosas en radio, de proyectar alegría musical, de transmitir energía. ¡Este hombre, Claudio Castro Cabrera, quería tocar la música tropical, bailable y hacerlo las 24 horas! Quería tener bailando a la gente de Cuenca, con la música que las tantas emisoras del área no se atrevían a tocar: la bachata, el merengue, la salsa de los artistas del caribe.

Claudio Castro nació y se crió en la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador y desde sus años juveniles ya le atraía el mundo radial, se puso la meta de ser un locutor de radio y en un futuro se veía dirigiendo su propia empresa radial. Radio Cuenca le abrió las puertas a los medios, y pronto llegó el reconocimiento a su talento en un horario estelar de complacencias musicales, el mismo que le dio gran renombre. Después de trabajar muchos años en los Estados Unidos como locutor y empresario de eventos artísticos, logró su sueño en 1996 de manejar su propia emisora, al conseguir, en su ciudad natal, la frecuencia 103.3 FM. Claudio Castro, conocido como “El DJ Internacional”, estableció el estudio de su emisora en la avenida Remigio Crespo, ostentando con colores brillantes, rojo y amarillo, el nombre con la que la bautizó: LA MEGA 103.3 F.M. No se hizo esperar la acogida de la ciudadanía de Cuenca, y el slogan ´´La Mega, La Estación Que Tiene Bailando A Cuenca´´, estaba en boca de todos.

En el año 2000, LA MEGA subió tantos escalones de sintonía que dejó atrás a las demás radioemisoras y se convirtió en la #1, respaldada por los datos precisos de la prestigiosa empresa de sondeos de audiencia, Mercados y Proyectos. Por LA MEGA han desfilado los mejores locutores y artistas de fama mundial, como Elvis Crespo, Aventura, Daddy Yankee, Sandy Papo, Don Omar, Elvis Martinez, etc. Y la acogida radial continuó subiendo como espuma, la estabilidad de la radio se solidificó impresionantemente, ya que continuó liderando la cúspide de la sintonía por los años siguientes. ¡Hasta el momento, a LA MEGA no la baja nadie! ¡Es la emisora que las otras radios escuchan para imitarla¡ ¡LA MEGA está en el corazón y mente de todos!
