About Learn the Thai Alphabet and Nu Android App

Mastering the Thai script and sounds is the single most important step in becoming competent in speaking the Thai language.

App Main Screen: I recommend learning the consonants in the order of the first screen as it's the most efficient way to do so.

Menu: All Consonants View, Vowels View, Numbers View, Drills

Drills: You can drill the Thai numbers from any angle (with or without Thai script numerals)

Fonts: Once you get comfortable with the script, try looking at it again in a different font.

The Thai script can seem intimidating at first as there are many letters and vowel shapes that you'll need to learn. That means, there is a bit more work involved to get started than if your native language was English and you started learning Spanish.

Luckily, the Thai script is very phonetic so what you see is almost always what you say. There are a few special exceptions, but for the most part, once you have learned to associate the sound of a consonant or vowel, it will be the same always.

If you get frustrated, just remember that there are a finite number of sounds to learn and once you learn them, it's always pronounced the same no matter where you go. If you have the time and are dedicated, there's no reason you can't learn all of this in 10 or 20 hours. If it's taking you longer, I would strongly recommend changing up your strategy/routine.

Check out my comprehensive program for learning to speak Thai. My first course teaches you everything you need to know about the script, sound system and tone rules. This app was originally intended as a supplementary tool for that course, but I've released free it so that anyone can benefit from these drills.
