The Terra protocol runs on the Blockchain Proof of Stake (POS), where miners must stake them to mine transactions. This is because the Terra protocol is ready to exchange stablecoin terra with Luna with the exchange rate they specify by maintaining peg. When demand is high and the price above Peg, Terra will sell stablecoin for Luna. When demand is low and the price is below the peg, then the opposite. In this way, the validator absorbs the short -term volatility of the network. To compensate, the validator is given rewards in the form of: i) Staking rewards, ii) gas fees, iii) taxes, and iv) Seigniorage rewards. Staking rewards are determined based on the size of the stake validator and are set to provide an incentive to increase the volume of transactions. Gas fee and tax are similar where small costs are charged to terra transactions, which are distributed to the validator evenly. Finally, the Seigniorage reward is given to the validator who participates in the forecasting process of Luna's exchange rate. These benefits are trying to create stable and eternal mining demand in all economic conditions. If the rewards increase, this protocol reduces network costs and seigniorage rewards, and vice versa.
