The Heart Sutra is a Buddhist scripture written in ancient India. The original name for the Heart Sutra in Sanskrit is "Prajna paramita hrdaya Sutra". In the Hsuan-chuang (玄奘) translation, it is "般若波羅蜜多心経".
The Six-syllabled Sanskrit Mantra "Oṃ mani padme hum" is particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin), the bodhisattva of compassion. Mani means "jewel" or "bead" and Padma means "the lotus flower", the Buddhist Sacred Flower.
