Discover the stories behind the places you see every day
The Memory of Nations Sites application is an interactive guide to sites that are connected with stories from the 20th century. The application finds your location and shows you a map of all the “sites of memory” in the vicinity. The application allows these places to speak out to, literally. They speak in the words of the people who experienced it all first hand.
Incredible things have happened in many places near you. And there are thousands of witnesses who have lived such adventures. If you want, it’s still no problem to stop in a village square and ask a local to tell you about the place. But if you don’t happen to meet anyone, you can be sure that with the Memory of Nations Sites app, you’ll have hundreds of such stories within arm’s reach. And to top it all, you can make learning 20th century history an enjoyable activity!
The application uses interviews recorded by documentarists of the non-profit organisation Post Bellum and its partner organisations. Full recordings are available at the internet archive Memory of Nations (www.memoryofnations.eu).
