Micronutrient Initiative (MI) works on eliminating malnutrition from developing countries. It focuses on delivering micro-nutrients, namely the vitamins and minerals, to millions of people who suffer from under-nutrition in developing countries. MI targets vulnerable groups especially women and children in these countries.Their work is creating an impact in 70 countries. In Pakistan, one of its initiative is to eliminate iodine deficiency by salt iodization. MI is working with Ministry of Health in improving the quality of salt iodization in Pakistan. It uses an electronic system to monitor and improve salt iodization all across the country. The system stores data about salt producers (SPs) and details about each SP's salt production and salt iodization. This data is collected in fields visits by District Focal Persons (DFPs) of Department of Health and Micronutrient Initiative’s USI-Field Officers (FOs). Samples collected are tested at Quality Control Labs (QCL) whose results are uploaded in the system to generate reports.
IHS has developed an Android client that will record these visits and sample results using GPS coordinates and upload to the electronic system. The purpose of this client is to upload the data to server in real time and facilitate monitoring and reporting of the field visit data.
