About NAFED - A Farmer's Cooperative Android App

National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.(NAFED) was established on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 1958. Nafed is registered under the Multi State Co-operative Societies Act. Nafed was setup with the object to promote Co-operative marketing of Agricultural Produce to benefit the farmers. Agricultural farmers are the main members of Nafed, who have the authority to say in the form of members of the General Body in the working of Nafed.



Domestic Operations -

Domestic operations of Nafed mainly comprise of Outright business, Joint Venture business with member federations/societies, Agency & Consignment business and implementation of Price Support Scheme, PSF Scheme, Market Intervention Scheme of the Government of India. Nafed helps farmers by procuring their produce like Foodgrains, Pulses, Oilseeds, Spices, Cotton, Tribal produce, Jute & Jute products, Eggs, Fresh Fruits & Vegetables through the established cooperative network all over the country with active involvement of marketing societies at mandi level. NAFED also provides marketing assistance to the farmers by arranging disposal of their produce on consignment basis at terminal markets to enable them fetch best possible price for their produce.

Nafed at the behest of Govt. of India also serves the consumers' interests through supply of various essential items such as, Onions, Potatoes, Eggs etc. during scarce marketing situation or when the prices of such commodities rise abnormally.



Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) Scheme -

During the year 2015, Government of India has created Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) Scheme in order to create buffer stock of onions. Latter, buffer stocking of pulses was also included in the PSF scheme. Nafed is one of the Central Agencies for procurement and buffer stocking of Onion and onion at the prevailing market rates under Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) Scheme.



International Trade -

NAFED is one of the importing agencies of Government of India for import of Edible Oils for supply under subsidy scheme to the nominated states . NAFED did not undertake any import of Pulses in view of paucity of funds and also due to fluctuating international markets.



Industrial And Warehousing Units -

The products of NAFED Bio-Fertilizer, Indore viz, Rhizobium, Azetobactor and PSB/PSM continued enjoying the popularity amongst the farming community of India during the year 2015-16 also despite the prevalent of cut-throat competition in the trade.



Consumer Marketing -

Consumer Marketing Division continued to sell quality consumer products of daily need at affordable rates through the network of its brancehes and retail outlets located in Delhi and Shimla . It also caters to the consumer at their door step by running a couple of Mobile Retail shops in Delhi. The division also continued to supply Grocerry and other items to various leading hospitals, hotels, public sectors undertakings, schools, hostels etc. During the year, Total turnover of consumer Marketing was Rs. 11.10 crore.



Organic Farming -

NAFED with the motive of facilitating farmers for getting remunerative price for their produce and as a part of its vision of entering into emerging areas of Agri sector, has initiated organic farming projects of the Government of India through grants under then National Horticulture Mission (NHM) and Rashtrya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). NAFED's aim to entering into this activity was to initiate interest amongst farmers to convert into non-chemical form of cultivation practices.

Since 2007, NAFED is playing a pioneering role in the implementation of Organic Farming by undertaking various projects in different parts of the country, funded under NHM & RKVY. Three projects under NHM and RKVY are under implementation stage in area of approx 32000 have the state of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Completion report of two certification projects under NHM has been submitted to U.P. and Punjab State Governments.
