This Mobile App is a calculator indicating the likelihood that a patient who is taking proton pump inhibitor treatment will have nonadherence to this medication.
To calculate this likelihood we need to know the following patient parameters: prescription of antidepressants (yes or no), number of total drugs and non-guideline- recommended prescription of this medication (yes or no). Proton pump inhibitors are indicated primarily in diseases related to gastric acid secretion, where they have proved more effective than other antiulcer drugs such as H2 antihistamines. They are also used for prevention of secondary drug gastropathies and may also be indicated in more specific pathologies that require short-term treatment (bleeding ulcer, placement of esophageal bands, etc.).
This application will calculate a score based on the risk given by the above parameters. A patient is more likely to experience nonadherence if he/she is taking antidepressants, has higher number of total drugs and its prescriptions is not recommended by the clinical guidelines. The resulting score will indicate if the patient has nonadherence (positive) or not (negative).
If a patient is found to positive, we should immediately undertake a strict control of that patient’s medication, aimed at reducing future sequelae.
