The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery) is one of the most important art museums in the world. The origins of the Gemäldegalerie can be traced back to the Kunstkammer (‘art chamber‘) of the Electors of Saxony, which was founded in the mid-16th century.
