A Brief History of OneGirlSymphony
Whitney Vandell grew up with limited exposure to pop music saw her develop independently at her own pace, singing and playing wherever her mother’s work as a missionary took them.
William Stewart was accepted to Juilliard at the age of fourteen. After graduating he spent more than three years with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra before he decided to retire from from playing the violin at the age of 21 to raise a family in Switzerland.
An online introduction via a family friend led William to again pick up his violin after more than thirty years to help Whitney complete her autobiographical symphony. Bouncing tracks between them over the course of two years and engaging instrumentalists in Ethiopia and around the world resulted is a unique style of music defying categorisation into any genre yet seemingly combining them all, from classical, rock, hip-hop, and folk music to the blues. OneGirlSymphony is the start of musical adventures that are only just beginning.
