Normal alarms shock your system into alertness using a flight or fight mechanism. Others require you to keep your phone under your pillow, exposing you to radiation and inconvenience. onSchedule uses something called brain entrainment to guide you from the deep brain wave patterns of sleep to rapid patterns only seen while awake. Entrainment is your brain's natural tendency to mimic the light and sound patterns it sees and hears. Our special aural track is designed to guide your brain up to where it is open to listening to the outside world, then introduce nature sounds that move from low frequency and soothing to more energetic and active. In this way we prepare you to hear your alarm in a way that isn't a shock to your system. You may even find yourself waking up before the 15 minute entrainment track is even over! Unlike other 'smart' apps that measure your movements to time the alarm, with onSchedule you can set a precise time for waking up and leave your phone on your side table.
After the main alarm sounds, onSchedule can use Text2Voice to read to you the time, weather (coming soon), news (from preselected or user-defined RSS feeds), or your calendar appointments for the day. This is great if you want to lay in bed a little longer, or just want to hear the headlines while brushing your teeth. For busy business people it's a nice time saver.

Notes for use:
If you wish to use the entrainment track (and we highly recommend you do), we have some basic suggestions. First, remember that waking up more easily and alert doesn't mean you'll have energy throughout the day. You need to get enough sleep to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Second, if you set it in your mind to stay asleep, it won't work as well. Sometimes if you wake up to pee an hour before your alarm you're trying really hard to block out the world and go back to sleep - your combative brain can easily block any alarm. We recommend trying it for a week as a test. Go to bed with the mindset of a peaceful and pleasant morning, listening to the sounds around you.This expectation will magnify the effect of the entrainment track.
If you consistently experience adverse effects with the entrainment track, please don't use it. We've never seen anything negative, but one user did report unusual dreams before waking (although he did continue to use it because he was so much more alert in the morning). Entrainment is not well-researched in the lab, and we cannot guarantee that it will work for you. We do, however, have great faith in the product and our tests and experiences suggest it is a valid mechanism. We are currently gathering EEG data.
