Wilfred Owen, the great WW1 poet who spoke of ‘the pity of war’, lived for close on two years in the small South Oxfordshire village of Dunsden. This interactive app uses stories and recorded extracts from the vivid letters he wrote to his mother from Dunsden, to engage visitors on a fascinating walk through some of the areas where he lived and worked.
Wilfred’s letters tell us as much about life and social extremes in a poor rural area at the turn of the twentieth century, as they do about his own personal development during this time – a seminal time for him in relation to his ideas and his poetry.
The trail can be followed on foot, by bike or car or from the comfort of your home. We recommend you download the Heritage Lottery funded app before taking the trail.
