Phan Boi Chau was born on December 26, 1867 in Dan Nhiem village, Nam Hoa commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.
His father was Phan Van Pho, his mother was Nguyen Thi Nhan. He was a smart boy since he was 6 years old. He studied at 3 years old. He was 7 years old. He read the book of Lunyu.
By the time he was young he had patriotism. At the age of 17, he wrote "Tay Binh Tay Thu Bac" to be put in the banyan tree to respond to the anti-French uprising. At the age of 19 (1885), he and his friend Tran Van Luong set up "Can Vuong" (more than 60) against France, but the enemy pulled to terrorists should be dispersed.
The difficult situation, he teaches learning to make a living and study exam. In the year of Dinh Dau (1897), he was admitted to the second school but his friend Tran Van Luong had been in the book but he did not know so he was sentenced to death (in the shirt). Sentenced to life without any trial (life can not be tested).
After this project, Phan Boi Chau to teach Hue, due to his good fortune, the authorities asked King Thanh Thai to remove the sentence. Thus, the next chapter of the examination, Canh Ty (1900), he passed the head (Short Story) in Nghe An
