When you measure and train, you breathe IN through the device to maximally train your inspiratory muscles. By training these muscles you increase the time to fatigue during aerobic activity. PrO2 training can increase VO2 max up to 10% even in professionally trained athletes.
This training is ideal for maintaining aerobic capacity when a person cannot do their normal aerobic training due to injury or other factors.
The app plots inspiratory pressure against time and displays it real time. Your initial breath is your baseline and then you train against that baseline for 36 breaths with decreasing rest intervals. This training should be thought of as a weightlifting program. Remember, the PrO2 is training your inspiratory MUSCLES not your lungs. Training harder means more benefit.
The on-screen graphs and statistics provide a great motivation during the work out.
