Spirometers are devices that assess a person’s lung function. Performing a spirometry test involves using a large and clunky device under professional supervision. Our project aimed to solve this problem by offering a cheap, compact and user-friendly alternative. We have created a wireless, battery powered, spirometer based on a Photon microcontroller. This communicates via Bluetooth to an Android app (Pulmo) that displays the measured exhaled airflow information for the user to visualise and share with their medical experts. Our product enables users to self-administer spirometry tests for an affordable price of £90, which we believe caters to medical applications and the growing market of smart fitness-devices.
This is a Design-Make-Test project in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London.
This version of Pulmo Android App comes with one universal variant which will work on all the Android devices.
