Please see change log details inside the app from now on.
This application is a data collection tool for the purposes of a Masters thesis within Uppsala University. Uppsala introduces interesting ideas about the study of a phenomenon that consistently plagues individuals who live in areas with harsh seasonal changes and with reduced light exposure. This phenomenon at extreme cases is aptly called
Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD)and is known to be responsible for altering mood, activity and energy levels as well as eating and social wellness. The most severe case of SAD results in depression which can lead to many other physical
problems.
The project's ultimate goal is to preemptively reduce the effects of SAD in smartphone users, by collecting and analyzing the following data:
Light( Lux) values from the mobile Phones Ambient Light Sensor
Accelerometer Data
Location Data
Weather Data
Eventually with enough data collected this application should provide the user with an idea on how well they are on the symptoms described above. However, this is the test-release version, as more data comes in newer features will be added to this application. These features include Social Networking, Backing up data to Google Drive and a much better UI. Currently, users can see the data collected by clicking on the respective buttons on the main screen. The application uploads all the data to a private server at Uppsala University. No data will be sold or distributed to third-parties.
We invite users to install and leave the app running in the background as we collect data.
This app comes with a mandatory tutorial which will launch once automatically the first time you run it. If you wish to view it again later go to the settings and select tutorial. Subsequent launches of the app will not launch the tutorial.
Please take the time to review the settings from the main menu(settings button-> change settings). There is a new opt-in for the Questionniare. Note the Questionniare and other important events will show up in the notification bar (drag your finger from the top of the phone screen down to see all the notifications).
Please note if the graphs do not display anything at the beginning of use it is because there is not enough data collected and/or the required crowdsourced files have not been downloaded yet. In this scenario it is better to wait for some minutes before clicking on the graphs.
This app is now controlled from the Service entirely, the rest of it is a UI. This means that now we can use the lightweight service to run on startup to collect data. The user does not need to pay any attention to the actual app now. If the user wishes to see the app UI simply click on the SadHealth button in the notification or actually start the app from the app screen.
In order for the service to start automatically on boot up it is required to start the app at least once!.
Thank you for your continued support!
A note about Permissions:
This app uses permissions GOOGLE_ACCOUNT, we are integrating fully with the Google environment which means we need access to what your email address is, i.e [email protected]. The GOOGLE_ACCOUNTS permission grants the app the right to read information about your account. For example we only read your name and what your email address is. We do not/can not make changes to your account by this permission.
AlarmManager permission is required for clearing some data at the start of every day(midnight).
Startup permission is used to allow the lightweight service to run on startup. (you can change it in the setting option).
