About Sesh Android App

Sesh connects college students with peer tutors at their university for on-demand and scheduled tutoring sessions, called Seshes. These tutors have taken and excelled in the exact courses with which the students need help, and can be requested at any time of day.

Sesh was created by college students who experienced the difficulties of finding help that fits their schedules. TAs offer office hours for only a few hours a week, and it is impossible to find a tutor for that last minute cramming session before a test or finals. Even if you do find one through an existing service, professional tutors have general knowledge of each subject and are not familiar with the specific course in which you need help. With Sesh, we are striving to create peer-learning communities so that students can bypass these inefficient processes. Our goal is to give college students the ability to get affordable and tailored help when they want it.

FAQ

How much does Sesh cost?

Students are charged ~40 cents per minute of tutoring, which works out to $25 an hour. Seshes have a minimum length of 30 minutes but have no maximum. The total cost will depend on how long your sesh is, but by being charged by the minute, you'll never overpay.

How long is each sesh?

As noted, each sesh has a minimum length of 30 minutes but can be as long as the student desires.

What information is needed when I submit a tutoring request?

When a student requests a sesh, they will provide the following information:

· Class in which they need help
· Short description of the assignment (studying for a midterm, stuck on a problem set, etc.)
· Maximum length of sesh (so tutors will know if they have sufficient time)
· Number of students (currently 1-3) for potential group-tutoring seshes
· Location of sesh

These factors will be entered into our algorithm so that you are paired with the perfect tutor!

In which courses can I receive help?

For each school where Sesh has launched, students will have the ability to select any undergraduate or graduate level course for a sesh. However, the supply of tutors for each course depends entirely on how many tutors have signed up. It is more likely that tutors will be available for large lectures than small seminars, but it is always worth giving it a shot!

Seshes will also be offered for General Essay Revision and the GMAT, GRE, MCAT, and LSAT.

How does payment work?

Payment is taken care of within the Sesh application through Stripe, a payment operator trusted by thousands of companies. The first time you use the Sesh application, you will be prompted to enter your credit card or bank account information into the “Payment” tab. After each sesh, the transaction will be processed automatically, and an email receipt will be sent to you. We know cash transactions with your peers can be tricky and awkward, so the payment process has been made seamless so you can focus on learning.

How are tutors rated?

After each Sesh, students will be asked to rate their tutors using the following metrics:

· Helpful
· Knowledgeable
· Friendly

Students will rate their tutors in each category on a 5 star scale, which will be combined to determine a final rating.

If I like a tutor, is there a way for me to request them again?

The “Favorites” function allows students to save their favorite tutors and contact them directly for future seshes. When inputting information for a Sesh, the student will be given the option to select from their favorite tutors. If selected, a request will be sent directly to that tutor(s). If the tutor is not available, the student will be notified, and the request will become available for other tutors to accept.
