Shuser is an app that reacts to noise by playing a sound. This can be used for shusing babies or pets (e.g. Baby cries, Shusher plays soothing music), but other applications are possible.
Optionally, in stead of playing a sound it can dial a phone number. In this way, it can be used as a babyphone.
Shusher has a number of tabs that show information or allow the user to set values. The following tabs are available.
Main tab.
This shows information on how Shusher reacts. It shows the trigger (see Trigger tab) and the action (see Action tab) that should be taken once Shusher is triggered.
The status field shows the current status of Shusher (e.g. Started, stopped, triggered, etc.)
The Airplane mode button switches airplane mode on or off. This button is only available on devices before Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
The On/Off switch activates or disactivates Shusher.
Trigger tab.
Here the sensitivity is set at which Shuser is triggered. Low means triggered at low noises, high means only louder noises will trigger Shusher.
The Calibrate button will show how loud the incoming noises are (set the sensitivity to Low before calibrating).
The Delay is the number of seconds whithin which the next noise should be received before playing a sound. A delay time of zero will play the sound immediately.
Action tab.
Here the action is set that Shusher should take once it is triggered.
The wav file that should be played is selected from the list. You can add your own sounds to this list by recording your own wav file (see Recordings) or copy wav files to the Shusher directory (/sdcard/Shusher). The volume at which the wav file should be played can be set, and the maximum time in seconds the wav should be played. If the wav file is shorter than the number of seconds, it will be repeated. If a Fade out value is set, the wav will fade out to zero over the last part.
Alternatively, a phone number can be dialed by setting the Play/Dial switch. This can be done with the speakerphone on, so the receiver can talk back (like a babyphone). Naturally, this option is only available on devices that have phone capabilities.
Recordings tab.
Here the user can create his own wav files by recording them. First, a new name for the wav file must be entered. By pressing the Record button the device's recording app is started. By saving the wav file, the file is added to the list.
By selecting a wav file from the list, the wav file is played. By pressing the Delete button, the selected wav file is deleted.
Shusher comes with 3 standard sounds that can be played:
- Train. This is a standard 'white noise' of a train riding over tracks.
- Lullaby. A standard lullaby.
- Shhh. The SHHHH sound.
If one of the standard sounds has been deleted from the list, a restart of Shusher, or and orientation change will copy them back to the list.
Log tab.
This shows all the triggers and actions of Shusher in a list.
The list can be cleared with the Clear button.
With the Send to button, the list can be emailed.
Help tab.
Here you can find the help file on Shusher.
