The signs of pregnancy experienced by women vary from one woman to the next. They can also be different for the same woman during different pregnancies. The only symptom that all women who are pregnant experience are the missed period.
This is not to say that if you have a missed a period you are most definitely pregnant. No, though this sign is experienced by all pregnant women it can also be caused by other reasons such as changes in the birth control method used, imbalanced hormones, menstruation that is pending, losing or gaining weight excessively, stress and tension.
It is possible for these signs of pregnancy to occur even after a week of conception while for some individuals they take longer. It is, therefore, crucial for one to understand these symptoms as they are not only tied to pregnancy.
First signs of pregnancy that are common
Recent surveys by American Pregnancy Association have shown that there are some signs that are usually the first to occur in a large population of women. About twenty-five percent of the women experiences nausea first during their pregnancy. Seventeen percent said that they first noticed something different about their breasts.
About twenty-nine percent go the pregnancy alarm due to a delayed or missed period. In as much as some individuals consider implantation bleeding as a common first symptom during pregnancy only three percent of the females in the survey recognized they were pregnant due to it. Other signs experienced are fatigue, backaches and headaches, cravings for specific foods, mood swings and urinating frequently.
Delayed or missed periods
Majority of women only take pregnancy tests after they fail to receive their monthly periods. This is the most common sign of pregnancy and it is common for all pregnant females. If conception occurs there is no way your next period is appearing. At times some pregnant women experience bleeding that is very light and for a short span of time as compared to periods.
Morning sickness and nausea
This is one of the most uncomfortable signs of pregnancy which is usually experienced from about two weeks of conception and last up to eight weeks. The duration of time it takes varies from one woman to another and some experience it throughout the first trimester or the entire nine months. The intensity of the symptom also varies depending on the individual; some experience nausea only while for some it is accompanied by vomiting. In as much as it is referred to as morning sickness, it does not mean that it only occurs in the morning. It is prone to occur at any time of the day.
Change in the breasts
The changes in the mammary glands are noticed as the breasts become tender or swollen during pregnancy for most women. The change can be detected from as early as seven to fourteen days after conception. The area surrounding the nipples which are known as the areolas can also darken. One needs not to be alarmed as it is a common sign experienced by expectant women.
