The Brunei Shipwreck app was developed for Form 1 - 3 secondary school students in Brunei. The story begins with the accidental discovery of a 15th century shipwreck off the coast of Brunei. Through the personal narrative of Jacques Noureddine, a professional deep-sea diver, the reader is led on a journey of discovery from the excavation site on the floor of the South China Sea to the archaeology laboratory of the Brunei Museum in Kota Batu. Oil men and divers become amateur archaeologists and everyone becomes a student of history. The recovery and identification of the ship’s cargo sheds new light on maritime history in South-East Asia and Brunei’s Golden Age under the rule of Sultan Bolkiah.
The Brunei Shipwreck is illustrated with colour photographs from the actual excavation site and by graphics which are designed to expand the reader’s understanding and appreciation of the story. The Exploration Page at the end of each chapter provides the opportunity for readers to test their comprehension and encourages them to explore topics of personal interest related to history, geography, science, art and career themes.
