THE MAHASIDDHA SANCTUARY In the Buddha’s Birthplace
The Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace
The Government of Nepal has entrusted His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche with the task of building a sanctuary that will honor the birth of Lord Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal. The Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace will have great spiritual and historical significance for the entire world. Rinpoche envisions a sanctuary that will serve as an inspiring pilgrimage site for everyone who cherishes peace, tolerance and understanding between nations, communities and individuals around the world. The sanctuary will preserve a complete collection of Buddhist writings in digital format up to the current day in every language.
His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche
Renowned Buddhist teacher and author of Living Fully: Finding Joy in Every Breath, His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche was born in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. He was recognized as a holy child and began training as a lama from the age of four. Rinpoche attended a Buddhist University in Sarnath, Varanasi, and later received sacred transmissions from many of the greatest and most realized Buddhist masters of our time. Rinpoche is a true lineage holder of the Great Perfection tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and a skilled transmitter of the secret essence of Vajrayana.
The Mahasiddha Sanctuary Design
The brilliant modern design was envisioned by His Eminence and based on the traditional Buddhist symbols of a lotus (purity), a butter lamp (clarity), an offering mandala (generosity), and a stupa (spiritual wisdom). The famous German architect Professor Stephan Braunfels (who is known especially for the architectural beauty of the German Parliament Building in Berlin) has rendered a design that is commensurate with Rinpoche’s vision. At the request of the Lumbini Development Committee, the structure will be engineered to last for over a thousand years.
The Sanctuary Facilities
The sanctuary interior will feature a magnificent main hall honoring the birth of the Buddha and the Buddha’s mother, Mayadevi; a digital library containing a complete database of all Buddhist sutras, tantras and commentaries in all available languages; a retreat center; museum; conference facilities; and accommodation for monks and nuns. In the true spirit of Buddha’s teachings, the sanctuary will transcend limited boundaries and represent and embrace all Buddhist traditions and every school.
Participate With a Pure Heart
The Buddha taught us that giving with a pure intention, free of any personal agenda, is the best way to grow spiritually and generate positive karma. Rinpoche points out that the Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace Project is really about giving everyone the opportunity to participate with a pure heart. Rinpoche says: “Simply rejoicing in this meritorious project, simply having one good wish for it’s successful completion will generate good karma. Telling one friend about this project will create great merit. Monetarily, you can give just one dollar, one yuan—or just one “like” on Facebook!”
