About TheShortcut Android App

• Users will be able to register on the app, all data gathered is stored in an
online/hosted database namely a firebase.
• When a user attempts to log in to an existing account the Username and Password
entered will be cross-referenced to entries in the database and if found the user will
be granted access.
• There will be a setting menu where the user will be able to select their preferred mode
of transport(Walking, Biking, Driving and public transport). The user will also be able
to select whether they’d like all information displayed in the Imperial/Metric System.
• A user(Whose location will be known by the app as all smartphones are equipped with
GPS chips that communicate to multiple satellites which determine the position of the
chip) will be able to select a destination by address and the app will direct him by
calculating the best route between the users location and the selected destination.
• Once Destination is selected and confirmation made TheShortcut will display the
time(estimated) and distance to the destination by gathering data from JSON files
obtained with a API key from Google Maps Directions API.
• TheShortcut will display the route to the user visually through maps with the users
location onscreen allowing them to recognize roads and understand the route.
• All trips will be stored in the firebase.
• Speed compared to speed limits will be provided on screen for users.
• With TheShortcut users don’t have to only select one destination, a user can select a
stop on route to the final decision and the application will adjust the route accordingly.
• An onscreen Compass will also be provided to users for navigational purposes and
awareness.
• Estimated time and distance left displayed central bottom of the screen
• TheShortcut will also provide voice navigation so users can keep their eyes on the
road distraction free.
• Saves Home and Work addresses of user into database.
