The Ticket Scanner application enables an android device such as a smartphone or tablet computer to be used as a ticket scanner to validate tickets at an event. The app works in conjunction with the Booking Craft online event booking and ticketing system. The app is aimed at tour guides, operators of tourist attractions, musical or training events who want a way to scan and validate tickets.
NOTE: Before you can use this app you must (outside this app) set up an online ticket shop and configure an event which you want people to book/buy tickets for. The event booking system is a platform which hosts the event booking software. The Ticket Scanner app communicates with this system in order to retrieve information about your events and the valid tickets for those events, as well as to upload the scanned tickets.
So, if you want to try out this application, you won't get very far unless you have the online shop set up and an event configured. Do this first: Go to www.bookingcraft.com and look at the introductory video. Then follow the link to take a test drive. There is a free trial period which you can use to test the event booking system.
Using the Ticket Scanner to validate tickets as guests enter your event can speed up their admission and reduce the chance of human error. It also enables the server-side code to determine which of your guests have turned up.
The app fetches your event and ticketing information from the server - it requires an Internet connection for this. It does not require an Internet connection for the scanning operation itself, thereby enabling the app to be used for scanning tickets when in an area with no network coverage.
The app will reject invalid tickets, and for valid tickets it also indicates what type of ticket it is, for example, if it was purchased as a student or child ticket. This enables the operator to check for additional ID if required.
The operator can then upload the scanned ticket codes to the server (Internet connectivity required) so that attendance information for the event can be tracked.
The app includes detailed help information on how to use the Ticket Scanner. The app and documentation is available in both English and German (Deutsch).
The Ticket Scanner app depends on the Barcode Scanner app by the ZXing team, and will trigger the installation of that app if it is not already installed.
The Booking Craft event booking and ticketing system is produced by Vendexo (www.vendexo.com).
