Topography: Polygon Area AC is a tool designed for students and professionals of topography, who day by day have to perform complex calculations to calculate areas. Designed for: civil engineers, architects and surveyors.

Instructions for use:

1. Enter the main menu, where you must wait until the application loads to activate the buttons (change to white). Whenever you press the CANCEL buttons within the app, you will be directed to this screen.

2. If you press the NEW POLYGON button, the Project Data Entry screen opens. You can leave this screen blank and continue to save time. The date is automatically taken from the time of your android device and serves to create the name of the files that the app can generate. The name of the project is especially important because it is also included in the name of the generated files. TXT files are saved in the Polygon_Area_TXT folder and PDF files are saved in the Polygon_Area_Reports folder.

3. When you press the GO button on the project data screen, you will be sent to the Terrain Data Input screen, where you must tell the app if the polygon you are going to enter is located on an easy or difficult measurement terrain (if you do not choose one of these two options, the TO WORK button will not be activated). In topography this depends on the natural inclination of your terrain. If you choose the "Easy" option, the unit maximum closing error will be taken as 0.003, if you choose the "Hard" option, the maximum unit closing error will be equal to 0.005. Due to these tolerances, it is very complicated to use the GPS of the current android devices.

4. Also in the Terrain Data Input screen, enter the coordinates of the starting point. In topography, it is preferable to work with initial total coordinates large enough so that no negative total coordinates exist. Finally press the TO WORK button to continue the distance and azimuth entry.

5. In the distance and azimuth input screen, the app automatically generates the station (starting point) and the observed point (end point) of the boundary being entered. You must enter the horizontal distance (in meters) and the azimuth (in degree, minute, second). When you finish entering a side press the NEXT POINT button. As the app does not know how many sides your polygon will have, we created the "last point" box where you can indicate when you are entering the last side. If you press YES, you can see how the observed point automatically changes to “E-0”, since the application knows that since it is the last point, it must return to the starting point to close the polygon. In addition, the legend of the NEXT POINT button will change to CALCULATE. Press this button to end the data entry and proceed to the results screen. You can tell the app that the current point is the last time you have entered at least one side, as there can not be a two-sided polygon.

6. In the Results screen, you will be presented with a text box that will indicate if the unit closing error is acceptable or not. Just below you will be presented with the area of the polygon in square meters. Pressing the TXT button generates a .txt file containing the corrected total coordinates, in a format designed to be easily imported into a CAD program. Each line has the following form: "# station, X, Y, Z," and represents a point; this is a format very similar to the one exported by the measuring devices used in topography. If you press the PDF button a detailed and professional PDF report will be generated, all the reports have a nice letterhead, with page counter of the form Pg 1 of 1, so that you do not lose the order of your printed document and more.
