About TrackSpy Dashcam Preview Android App

TrackSpy is part of a software project at TrackSpy.com in 2016. The website counterpart for evaluating recorded data is available on TrackSpy.com.

This preview is a trial version, free to use for a limited period, published as a free preview of the full (paid) version of TrackSpy.

TrackSpy will allow the race enthusiast to record their race performance in real time. With video recording synchronised to the data in the vehicle engine ECU via the OBD-II interface, real-time GPS data and accelerometer/gyroscope data from your smartphone's internal hardware, this app will allow you to record your data and then upload and review your data via the parent site, TrackSpy.com. Alternatively, fix this to your road car to record your daily drive to work (a dedicated dashcam version - "RoadSpy" - is on its way!).

Uniquely for this type of 'dashcam' application, TrackSpy can be used in either portrait or landscape orientation, to suit the best setup for your vehicle. In-car setups usually use landscape, but (with appropriate mounting equipment), portrait is often more suitable for a motorcycle/sidecar setup.

- Instant replay of your video-only recording is possible immediately from within this TrackSpy app, but for more detailed analysis using Cloud storage, you can select which of your recordings to upload to TrackSpy.com, and then review your race day via the website. Review your speed, cornering forces and location at each turn of each lap.
- Optionally Tweet your lap time to Twitter automatically to the TrackSpy Twitter account, so that your friends (and rivals!) can instantly see your current lap times (requires GPS and a data connection).
- Hands-free record start and stop. You can set a timed start-delay on your recording start and set a duration for recording to stop, or set a GPS location at which to start and stop your recordings, so that you never forget to start TrackSpy for that best lap (timers are only available on devices running Honeycomb or later)!

Note: although the listed permissions includes "Modify Phone State" and "Directly Call Phone Numbers", TrackSpy does not make use of the telephony features of your mobile phone to make calls, or send SMS text messages. This permission is required simply to suppress incoming phone calls during recording, which would otherwise interrupt the recording process.

Distractions whilst driving may cause accidents. Do not interact with this app while driving. The driver is responsible for safety at all times. Do not configure the application or evaluate results while driving. Make sure your smartphone is secured in a holder before using this app so that it does not present a hazard while driving. As the driver, you have sole responsibility for the safe operation of your vehicle. To maximise safety, drive within your own personal capabilities, and within the limits of the prevailing road/track and weather conditions.

Known issues:
If the camera is disabled and then re-enabled in the TrackSpy Options, the camera can sometimes remain 'disabled'. If this happens, a workaround is to go back into the Options screen and straight back out again, which re-enabled the camera.
