Updated species descriptions.
Includes all birds that have been found in the United States of America including separate guides for Alaska and Hawaii (based on Avibase species lists, which include species that are only occasional visitors or are only found in captivity or because of escapes from captivity).
Species descriptions include one or more identification photos or drawings, detailed and searchable distribution data and comprehensive searchable color data. Many families of birds (e.g. raptors) also include wingspan and size data. A growing number of descriptions also include recordings of bird calls.
Use the app's filtering system to quickly find species that are likely to match your observations. As you provide more information about your location, size estimates, and plumage colors and the likely group of birds, the set of matching species narrows down. Quickly refine the set of likely candidates by reviewing an ID parade that shows all available identification photos for the species that match the information you provide.
Capture records through the app, including photos and recordings of bird calls, to assist in later identification. Records can be uploaded to the Gaia Guide server to preserve and share your observations.
Species descriptions are the result of collaboration by many contributors. All users of this app are welcome to contribute to species descriptions by adding identification photo, sound recordings and other information. Contributions can be made by submitting records through this app or they can be made directly through the Gaia Guide website.
The field guide information is extracted from the online species descriptions on the Gaia Guide website (https://gaiaguide.info/).
