UV dangers
Exposure to UV radiation is a major risk factor for most skin cancers – every doctor will say. And the sunlight is the main source of UV rays. If you get a lot of UV exposure you are at a great risk for sunburns and in the result for skin cancer. UV rays damage the DNA of skin cells. Skin cancer starts when this damage affects the DNA of genes that control skin cell growth.
Other effects of getting to much UV are sunburns and tanning that lead to skin damage. Skin aging, wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, dark patches and pre-cancerous skin changes are effects of long-term exposure to sun rays.
The strength of the UV rays that reach the ground depends on a number of factors:
• time of day – UV rays are strongest between 10 am and 4 pm,
• season of the year – UV rays are stronger during spring and summer months,
• your position on Earth (latitude) – UV exposure goes down as you get further from the equator,
• altitude – the higher you are, more UV rays reach the ground,
• cloud cover – certain types of clouds can block some UV lowers the exposure, but others can reflect UV and increase the exposure – just do not feel too safe in a cloudy day,
• reflection off surfaces – UV rays can bounce off surfaces like water, sand, snow, pavement or grass, leading to an increase in UV exposure.

UV Index features
Our app will give you valid and essential information so you can protect yourself and your beloved ones from those threats. With this app you will be able to check current ultraviolet index (UVI) and assess the risks for your health.
The app will check your location using GPS coordinates, match it with exact date and hour, pinpoint your altitude, measure the current cloud cover with light sensor in your smartphone and then tell you the corresponding UV level using external database.
Additionally you can define your skin type from the list, get information about proper skin protection (sunscreen cream, glasses with UV filter), and even set the alarm to warn you from too long sun exposure.
