Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch painter who is considered one of the most influential and famous artists in history. He created about 2100 artworks, mostly in the last two years of his life, with a distinctive style of bold colors, expressive brushstrokes, and symbolic imagery. He suffered from mental illness and poverty, and only sold one painting during his lifetime. He died by suicide at the age of 37. Some of his most famous works include Sunflowers, The Starry Night, and Wheatfield with Crows. He was part of the Post-Impressionist movement, which sought to explore new ways of depicting light, color, and emotion beyond Impressionism. He had a close relationship with his brother Theo, who supported him financially and corresponded with him regularly. He also had friendships and conflicts with other artists, such as Paul Gauguin, Émile Bernard, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He was influenced by Japanese art, Dutch realism, and French avant-garde.
