About Weather Kolkata Android App
Project 'Weather Kolkata':
This project is currently been supported by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. A predecessor to this project was initially sponsored by the International Business Machines Corporation, or IBM, under their Centennial Grant, celebrating 100 years of IBM’s existence and their effort to support socially relevant projects in 2011.
The project attempts to monitor the rainfall at various points of the city of Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) in real time with the help of digital tipping bucket rain gauges. Further, the water levels at the sumps of the drainage pumping stations are also being monitored to check any excessive increase that may require the attention of the pumping station operation staff. A combination of the aforesaid data of rainfall would be useful for predicting possible waterlogged areas of the city.
