Ascot valances are a triangle of folded fabric that hangs over the rod and onto the window. Ascot valances bring a traditional look with a contemporary interior design. The 3 folds can be made of different colors for a colorful interior tone.

Balloon valances look puffed up like ruffles. They are made of light fabric that bring a romantic and elegant appeal. Swag valances go over both the rod and snugly over the top of the window. They can be formal if neatly folded and look natural and informal if let to hang.

After you browse through the types of valance, it is important to consider what kind of fabric to make your valances from. Custom window valances do hold in heat, but they are primarily for decoration, so it is important to have them match you interior decor. Multi colored fabric can accent your furniture and pull the eyes around the room. The fabric weight should be less than the weight of the curtains so they do not interfere with each other.

Custom valances cannot be returned so make sure you invite a representative to the store to measure your windows if you are not 100% on your measurements. If you are trying to match a specific interior, custom valances are the way to go. Luckily, valances are a fast and easy way to add pizazz to a home.
