This is a timing/scoring app that is designed for real time tracking of times and running scores in XC running competitions. Up to 5 teams can be tracked with the application with timing splits and placement for an unlimited number of athletes per team. Results can be saved for later retrieval.
Long press the START RACE button to add time to the clock in the event the starting gun is missed.
The app keeps track of scores in two ways using the customary rules for scoring XC events. The first method is simply the sum of the places for each of the teams being tracked. These totals are shown in parentheses after the place scores that are recorded under each team label. This type of scoring is typical for team placement in invitational-type meets.
The second type of scoring is used to determine head-to-head scores between teams competing in a dual meet format. Frequently, these meets are conducted with more than two teams so after overall placements are determined, results from each combination of two teams are recalculated by ignoring other team results. While this is a fairly straightforward operation, it is difficult to keep track of these head-to-head scores in real time without an application such as XC Dual Scorekeeper. To use this feature, teams are placed in to the head-to-head slots by pressing the “A” and “B” buttons adjacent to each team label. The app will then place the selected teams in the A or B slots for dual meet scoring and the adjusted totals and individual placements are shown below the A and B team labels.
If time splits are desired, press the “START RACE” button when the starting gun sounds. The user can then toggle between the display of place scores and time splits by pressing the “Current Position” button. The clock can be stopped at the end of the race by pressing the timer button. At this time, the user is given the opportunity to correct scores for any incomplete teams among those being tracked.
Click on the Team Labels to revise the text to the actual team names using your device's keyboard. After typing the name, use the back button to return to the application.
Settings: Typical XC meet scoring uses the top five runners in each team to determine the teams total score and up to seven runners that can displace another team’s scores. However, some rule books alter this rule allowing different numbers of displacing runners. These values can be revised by clicking on the “CHANGE” button.
Note that places for runners over the number of displacing runners show up as 0 but their actual time splits are recorded.
Also note that in invitational meets having more than the maximum number of five teams, the score totals will not be correct because the impacts of the additional teams will not have been taken into account. This can be remedied by naming one of the teams (say Team 5) to "All Other Teams". When this is done, all of the "other" team finishers logged under this heading will be scored and the "Current Place" number will be incremented without regard for the maximum number of displaced runners. So, using this technique, one could accurately keep track of the scoring of up to four teams in a large invitational meet and coaches can keep runners updated on their correct overall placement in the race. Keep in mind that even using this technique, some errors in the score are still possible due to non-displacing runners (i.e., non-scoring runners - incomplete teams, allowing team sizes exceeding max number of displacing runners, etc), but this method should still result in the most accurate score possible making use of available information.
HINTS:
• Long Press Reset Button for full reset (Times/Places & Team Names)
• Press "Current Position" button to toggle between places and time splits
• Name Team 5 to "All Other Teams" and use to log scores of other runners for best accuracy of scores and current runner placement.
