Locals Made shows what local products to buy when traveling

Many people are tired of being mainstream slaves who are told what and when to buy or what to feel by international corporations. They’d rather consume products made by small local companies that are doing their job passionately by putting their whole heart into it. Sometimes, when a consumer is well-informed about the local market it’s possible to ignore the big daddies. But when traveling and knowing nothing about the local products it’s especially hard. Luckily, a new Estonian portal Locals Made solves that problem.

According to the author of the Locals Made idea Shardee Rebas there was no such portal that would give trustworthy advice about the best products in a certain country made by local entrepreneurs. “When I travel I like to experience the local culture in an authentic way and dig deeper into it. Instead of an international lager drink local craft beer and instead of a typical fridge magnet buy one of a kind designer product. But from the general media noise it’s difficult to find the up to date info,” described Rebas.

Locals Made is a portal designed for bringing together two groups: local entrepreneurs, who make high quality products and support the local economy by paying taxes; and customers, mainly tourists, who yearn for an authentic cultural experience. Product info in Locals Made is categorized based on a country, product type and evaluations made by locals. It also shows where those products are sold.

Locals Made was established on November 13, 2015, during Garage 48 Pärnu event. The team includes Shardee Rebas, Veli-Johan Veromann, Piret Malv, Jekaterina Tammpere, Mari-Liis Oldja, Taavi Tammpere, Helena Semm, Karl-Martin Miil and Triin Rum.
